Principle of operation

The aluminum or aluminum alloy heated to liquid state is poured into the inlet of the die casting machine, and the liquid or semi-liquid aluminum alloy is quickly pressed into the mold cavity using the die casting machine, and solidified under pressure, so as to obtain the castings.

Aluminum alloy die casting technical requirements

• Casting speed: if the casting speed increases, it will lead to the ingot liquid cavity and temperature gradient increases, so that in the liquid cavity at the bottom of the liquid cavity appeared liquid cavity section, resulting in a large contraction stress, increase the chances of appearing ingot thermal cracks, so it is necessary to control the speed.
• Product design: wall thickness, material, size of die casting should be in accordance with the relevant provisions or according to the demand side to provide drawings or mold required size and deviation.
• Liquid level height: The position of the liquid level is also important, if it is too low, it will lead to an increased tendency of thermal cracking of the material, and in serious cases, it will affect the casting process.
• Casting temperature: The casting temperature should be determined according to the type of material and ingot specifications. If the temperature is not appropriate, it will increase the internal stresses and make the casting crack or split.

Aluminum pressure die casting Components design

The design of aluminum pressure die casting parts needs to take into account a number of aspects, including material selection, mold design, injection system design, exhaust system design, mold release device design, part accuracy and so on.

Material selection:

Aluminum pressure casting of aluminum alloy for Al-Si system and Al-Mg system. Mold design:

Mold is the core part of pressure casting, and its good or bad design directly affects the product quality, production efficiency and cost. When designing the mold, the following factors need to be considered:

• Parting surface: It should be easy to manufacture and assemble the mold, and be conducive to the setting of pouring system and exhaust.
• Mold strength and stiffness: According to the shape and size of the die casting, choose the appropriate strength and stiffness design principles.
• Pouring system: the location of the gate opening should make the liquid metal flow smoothly into the cavity, and prevent the rolled gas and oxidation.
• Discharge system: discharge the solidified metal liquid in time to ensure the filling state of the cavity.

Injection system design:

The function of the injection system is to suck the liquid aluminum alloy into the gate and press the aluminum alloy into the mold cavity under pressure. The design of the injection system should consider the selection of the injection machine, gate size and gate speed and other factors.

Exhaust system design:

In the process of filling the mold cavity with aluminum alloy, some gases may be involved, which cannot be discharged after the aluminum alloy solidifies, resulting in defects such as porosity or looseness of the product. Therefore, the exhaust system is designed to avoid these defects.

Design of mold release device:

The mold release device is a mechanism used to eject the die casting. The following factors need to be considered when designing the mold release device:

• Diameter and number of ejector rods: the diameter of ejector rods should be at a suitable distance from the cavity surface of the mold, and the number should be determined according to the stress on the die casting.
• Ejector distance: the ejector distance should be set so that the die casting is smoothly detached from the cavity without damaging the die casting and mold.

Aluminum pressure die casting accuracy generally can reach CT11~CT13 level, for the higher accuracy requirements of the parts, you can take corresponding measures in the mold design, such as the use of inlaid structure, improve the surface roughness of the mold and so on.
