Open die — in-house tooling

MINDWELL designs and manufactures die casting molds in-house for aluminum, zinc, and magnesium HPDC programs—then runs the same tools in our die casting cells (capacity up to 1600T LK). Use this page when you need a production die (cavity/core, slides, gating) tied to a cast-part RFQ, not a generic mold encyclopedia.

CTA: Send part drawings + expected volume to service@mnwell.com or Contact.

Complete die on pallet

Process

  1. Part DFM review (wall, draft, parting, ejector plan).
  2. Mold concept & quotation (cavities, steel grade discussion, hot/cold runner as applicable).
  3. Detail design (2D/3D).
  4. Manufacture — machining, EDM / wire EDM as required in our in-house mold shop; precision grinding in-house.
  5. Tryout on HPDC machine; sample castings.
  6. Handover for production or ship tool per contract ownership terms.

Material

Tool steel selection follows part alloy, volume, and thermal load. Industry-common die steels (e.g. H13-class) may be discussed on RFQ. Mold steel grade per RFQ / tooling specification—not a published warehouse stock list.

Cast alloys supported by the tools we build: Al / Zn / Mg (Mg focus for lightweight programs).

Applications

  • Multi-cavity or single-cavity dies for housings, brackets, covers
  • Tools for Mg lightweight parts and Al structural / heat-sink class parts
  • Replacement or optimization of existing dies when drawings and wear history are shared

Why MINDWELL

  1. One team from die to casting — the shop that cuts the mold also runs HPDC up to 1600T LK.
  2. Mg-ready tooling mindset — Mg is a focus alloy; gating/thermal plan discussed for lightweight metals, not Al-only habits.
  3. Precision grinding in-house — critical mold faces finished without inventing overseas brand-name machine lists.

FAQ

Q: Do you only sell molds, or also cast parts?

A: Both. Most programs are mold + production castings; mold-only supply is discussed case by case.

Q: Can you tool magnesium dies?

A: Yes — we die-cast Mg and build the related tooling. Commonly offered magnesium alloys: AZ91D, AM50A, AM60B; process path per RFQ. See Magnesium alloys.

Q: Where is design done?

A: In-house. Design-focused page: Mold design. Manufacturing page: Mold manufacturing.

Q: Lead time?

A: Lead time quoted after DFM; we do not publish fixed week counts.
