Short answer: Choose magnesium when mass, specific strength, and damping matter more than absolute corrosion robustness and piece-price; choose aluminium when you need broader process windows, familiar supply chains, and typically lower melt-handling risk. Many programs stay aluminum; magnesium wins when the weight budget is real.
MINDWELL die-casts both (also zinc), with magnesium as a focus, in-house molds, and HPDC capacity up to 1600T (LK).

Process
Both alloys are commonly produced by hogedrukgieten. Differences show up in melt handling, die thermal design, and secondary finishing—not in “whether HPDC exists.”
MINDWELL path: DFM → in-house tooling → HPDC → FANUC CNC as needed → outsourced surface treatment / painting (baking finish) per RFQ.
Material
| Factor | Magnesium (typical HPDC view) | Aluminum (typical HPDC view) |
|---|---|---|
| Density | Lower → better for weight targets | Higher than Mg; still “light metal” |
| Specific strength | Often attractive for brackets/housings | Strong all-rounder |
| Corrosion | Needs design + finish attention | Generally more forgiving as-cast / coated |
| Process familiarity | Narrower supplier base | Very common |
| MINDWELL | Focus alloy family; AZ91D, AM50A, AM60B (final grade per drawing) | Fully in scope; grades per RFQ |
Commonly offered magnesium alloys: AZ91D, AM50A, AM60B (final grade confirmed per drawing / RFQ). Aluminum grades, mold steel, and coating specs remain per RFQ—not published as a stock catalog on this page.
Applications
- Lean Mg: handheld housings, mobility brackets, weight-critical covers.
- Lean Al: structural housings, heat-sink class parts, high-volume covers.
- Wrong pattern: copying an Al wall scheme 1:1 into Mg without DFM.

Why MINDWELL
- Decision framework first—sales pitch second.
- Honest: we cast both; Mg is focus, not the only answer.
- Same tooling + press context for either path.
FAQ
Q: Is magnesium always lighter in the final assembly?
A: Usually lower density helps, but thick walls, inserts, and coatings can erase the gain—DFM required.
Q: Is magnesium always more expensive?
A: Piece and tooling economics vary with volume and yield; quote both paths when weight is a KPI.
Q: Can one mold run both alloys?
A: Rarely practical without major rework—plan alloy early.
Q: Do you cast Mg in Xiamen?
A: Yes — magnesium-alloys.
Q: Lead time?
A: Lead time quoted after DFM; we do not publish fixed week counts.
